"Can Be Used With Any Downhole Tool Requiring Ball Activation"
BALL RELEASE SUB RECOMMENDED RUNNING PROCEDURE FORHYDRAULIC JUNK RETRIEVER OPERATION
S.D.T recommend that the "ball release" sub be positioned approx. 500 -1,000 ft above the ball landing seat. |
Recommended circulation rate is not to exceed 350 g.p.m. while pumping or washing down. |
To release the ball, slowly increase the pump rate to approx. 450 - 475 g.p.m. or until a significant pressure drop is obvious, then shut down the pump. |
Allow two to three minutes for the ball to free-fall and land out, timing will depend on where the sub is positioned. |
Slowly bring up the pump to close the finger sleeve, the sleeve will be fully closed at approx. 2,500 psi, continue to increase the pump pressure until the rupture disc blows at approx 3,100 psi. |
The string can now be pulled from the well. |
SERVICING THE BALL RELEASE SUB
Remove the sub from the string and remove the lock ring (1) from below the box connection, next remove the spacer sleeve (2). |
Place the sub on the box end and using either a wooden or brass punch, tap the ball carrier tube (3) back to the closed position, gently tap the plate body (4) from the sub. |
Check that shear pin holes (5) are lined up and remove any shear pin debris from the holes. |
Press the tube back to the released position and check the o'rings (6) and replace if necessary, re-install the ball and close the tube to the non shear-out position and install both shear pins. |
Check the o'rings (7) on the plate body (4) and replace if necessary. apply some lubricant to the seal area and carefully re-install the device into the sub body, tapping only on the spacer sleeve (2) to drive the plate body back to the stop shoulder. |
Re-Install the lock ring (1) and the tool is ready for re-run. |
