The Mudloc Mud Saver System is a patented mud check valve for use in Top Drive and Kelly Drilling Systems. It is unique in being extremely compact and simple to operate and service.

Fits Most Top-Drives
Simple Operation
Simple Maintenance
Prevents Spillage
Time & Maintenance
Cost & Time Saving
Prevents Pollution
Fully Tested
Top Drive Assembly (Open Position)

The patented Mudloc operating system comes in cartridge form. This permits the valve to be completetly rebuilt in minutes, even on the rig floor.

All Mudloc valves are built and designed to meet both API-8C and API-7 requirements. The cartridges are coated with the tungsten carbide on flow path areas to give long operating life.

Valves can be built to customer requirements regarding connection, i.e. Shoulder to shoulder and body O.D. measurments.

All valves are supplied with full certification, documentation as reuired by the customer.

Key
1. Snap Ring
2. Cartridge Assembly
3. Poppet Valve / Plug
Servicing:
1. Remove Snap Ring
2. Remove Cartridge
3. Close & Lubricate Cartridge Bore
4. Install Cartridge By "Pressing In"
5. Install Snap Ring
Shut-in drillpipe pressure can be monitored via the poppet valve (3)

When pressure testing, ultra slow pump pressure rates are recommended to allow pressure equilisation through the poppet valve.

The shear-out plug (3) can be pulled from the cartridge using the totco / wireline overshot or the overshot tool provided.

The Mudloc System eliminates the following:

Utilisation of the I.B.O.P. valve as mud-saver valve.
Dramatically reduces I.B.O.P. valve failure & maintenance costs.
Reduces rig downtime for I.B.O.P. change-out due to failure.
Potential environmental damage due to mud spillage.
Mud spillage on the rig floor, enhancing rig crew safety.
Mud spray / splatter in the derrick when pumping-out of the hole.
Pop-off valve activation due to failure to open I.B.O.P. valve.
Helps to prevent partial I.B.O.P. ball valve opening.
H.S.E. Issues involving rig crews with toxic & damaging fluids.
Unnecessary costs due to spilt and contaminated mud.

Mudloc recommend the following procedures :-

When pumping-out of the hole, bleed off any trapped pressure between the pump and the mudloc valve before lowering the top-drive unit from the derrick upper level.

The mudloc valve does not require pressure testing !! so it should be removed before pressure testing the top drive unit from below. if this is not possible, be sure to pump at the slowest possible rate to prevent shearing out the shear-out plug from the cartridge body.

Excessive back pressure or 'u-tubing' can cause the shear-out plug to shear. Either allow time for pressure to equalise or remove the valve or cartridge. "The mudloc is not designed to control downhole pressures".

When storing tool, stand upright & fill with oil after washing out the interior.

New tungsten carbide rings give extended life to metal to metal seal areas
